RADAR is proud to present Roommate, a new project and temporary exhibition space located in a ground floor apartment in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. Roommate brings together a pair of artists to explore the intimacy of how a domestic space is divided, shared and occupied. The inaugural exhibition featured new works by Benjamin Harle and Gabrielle Sanson, whose practices delve into the rich material histories of painting and ceramics while investigating concepts of impermanence, thresholds and porousness.

About the Artists

Benjamin Harle (b. 1989, Des Moines, IA) lives in Chicago, IL and teaches ceramics at Eastern Illinois University. Harle explores ceramic history through sculpture, installation, and vessel production and is influenced by the material's fragility, permanence and functionality. Harle has exhibited nationally and internationally with highlights including The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, MO), Hyde Park Arts Center (Chicago, IL) and The Clay Studio (Philadelphia, PA).

Gabrielle Sanson (b. 1988, Cape Town, South Africa) lives and works in Chicago. Weaving together autobiography and art historical reference, Sanson creates paintings, objects, and installations that propel themes of social life and identity. She uses picture books, everyday observations, and memory to create images of people and the structures that house them. Recent presentations include NADA Chicago (with Apparatus Projects), EXPO CHICAGO (with the University of Chicago) and LVL3 (Chicago, IL).
