The Athletics of Yes
Brandon Forrest Frederick and Sara Grose
November 5, 2022 – January 8, 2023
RADAR is proud to present the next installment of Roommate, featuring new works by Brandon Forrest Frederick and Sara Grose. Through sculpture, photography and drawing, The Athletics of Yes reveals our collective attachment to objects, the myth of their aspiration and our fatigue of the consumer experience.
About the Artists
Brandon Forrest Frederick lives in Fayetteville, AR and is currently pursuing his MFA at the University of Arkansas. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2011. His practice explores ideas related to digital and material culture, while interrogating photography and the way it quickly morphs as a fluent collaborator in everyday life. His work has been exhibited at La Esquina, Kiosk Gallery, and the H&R Block Artspace in Kansas City, MO; Candela Gallery in Richmond, VA; G-CADD in Granite City, IL; UMass Dartmouth in Dartmouth, MA; The University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA; Royal NoneSuch Gallery in Oakland, CA; and the CICA Museum in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. He was a founding member of Archive Collective (2013-17) and Open House (2017-19), and has been awarded grants from Meow Wolf, ArtsKC, and the Charlotte Street Foundation.
Sara Grose lives and works in Chicago, IL. She received her MFA from the University of Chicago and her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her practice reworks and reclaims the materials and notions of consumable culture. Honing in on repetitive forms and monotonous moments, her work pictures the cycling influence between people and the objects that move them, between objects and the people that move them, between people and the objects that move them. Research activities include browsing shopping malls, digging through junkyards and watching TV. Her most recent project, How to breathe in a shopping mall, is a collaborative two-person exhibition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and recent solo exhibitions include Butterfly at Trapdoor Studios in Evanston, IL.
